Thanks to Apple, it was a busy week for news consumption. More readings, less writings. And it’s OK. Starting with this week’s edition, I added a new section at the very end, in the exhibits down below: statistics.
1️⃣ Earlier in the week, I explained and shared in more detail why I was excited about Apple's keynote, Wonderlust. Then, on the day of the presentation, I did my readings, packaged my observations into a blog post and shared my initial impressions about the whole event and product announcements. That was faster than usual.
1️⃣ A rather busy week on Pixelfed with many more images shared. Some of them got a lot of attention. The header image of this week's summary is an example. The best since the beginning of my Pixelfed journey. 2️⃣ I find myself posting less and less to my Glass page. What should I conclude from this? Maybe I should focus on one platform. 3️⃣ I'm considering leaving Adobe Lightroom in favour of Photomator and Pixelmator instead. I already own those two excellent apps. I'm wondering how I can keep my originals and my processed images. I'll need to do some research to get a good understanding of the technical implications. A few Google searches revealed that it won't be a piece of cake, far from it. 4️⃣ Friday, I posted this image on my Glass page. Finally.
1️⃣ I'm using a Lavalier microphone for voice recording for my podcast (and YouTube videos). It comes with a Lightning male connector and is MFi certified. It's a great microphone. The problem? It won't work with the iPhone 15 Pro, which will come with USB-C. Looking for a female Lightning to a USB-C connector adaptor was unsuccessful until Apple released their own adaptor. I received my adaptor on Friday and tried it with my iPad Pro and two apps: Ferrite and Voice Memos. No luck. It doesn't make my microphone work with my iPad. It could be that the micriphone was really meant to work with an iPhone. I hope my experience with the iPhone 15 will improve when I get it.
1️⃣ I won't repeat my initial impressions here. Suffice it to say that I'm happy with what I saw this week coming out of Apple. Reactions are mostly positive. I should be getting my new iPhone in about a week. I can’t wait. I've been waiting for this upgrade for two years. 2️⃣ Apple's operating systems are at the center of everything I create. They all get updates this week. Check them out in all the glorious details in PDF format (iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma).
🚧 Special projects
1️⃣ I'm getting ready to start working on my iPhone upgrade experience. I want to write a more or less lengthy article about my appreciation of the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. I have a Craft document set up with different information tidbits gathered while reading the news. I want to use this occasion to (re)build an article template that I could use for similar articles (reviews, analysis, etc.). My current template (get a peek at it here) is a bit dated. So, I started to create a new one that I think is more useful and supportive of my writing workflow. If you are a Craft user, you can download a copy of it.
📱 Apps & Services
1️⃣ A new version of Craft was released, and I had a chance to explore the new features and tweaks. You can find my release analysis here. 2️⃣ AnyBox 2.0 changed something significantly: Collections are now Tags. My previously created folder structure was flattened out, and I had to redo my organization. Nothing major, but it’s a bit annoying. Tags can now be nested, which is more powerful for organizing link collection. 3️⃣ I still depend on Mailbrew for a few things, but according to their changelog, the service hasn't been updated for two years. 4️⃣ I tweaked my blog to use Tinylytics’ new features and Hugo 0.117. 5️⃣ I'm still testing Rewind, but the toll this utility is putting on battery power consumption makes me wonder if I'll keep using it.
1️⃣ I visited Quebec City to see friends and a football game. I know close to nothing about football. The weather was perfect. We left after half the game. 🙃
🔮 Looking ahead
*️⃣ I'm just waiting to get my hands on my new iPhone 15 Pro on September 22td. Then, I'll start working more extensively on my review.
I wish you a great week! 😊
