OMG — I’ve Been Unsplashed!

Congratulations from Unsplash
Congratulations from Unsplash

If you’ve been following me for some time, you know how much I’m fond of Unsplash. I’ve been a contributing member since the early days of Unsplash. Over the years, Unsplash expanded its platform in many directions (not all of which I’m happy with, by the way). I had the chance to be featured a few times, and when this happens, I call this “being unsplashed”, stats are booming. Today, I wanted to show you a glimpse of what it looks like to be “unsplashed”! Far from me the idea of bragging about my performance, though.

The latest featured photo

My latest photo to be featured is a black and white one I took last spring during our first confinement. It was during a long walk and snapped this seemingly ordinary photo. I wasn’t expecting the picture to be featured at all when I chose to upload it on Unsplash. This photo was part of a bunch of photos I uploaded after many months without contributing to the community.

Being featured means the photo makes it to the feed on the Unsplash main page, which provides the best exposure one can get. The included graphs show how many views and downloads I have got since the beginning. The big spike on the right is the consequence of being unsplashed. I suspect the height of the spike compared to previous ones reflects how popular the service has become over the years. It’s nice when people recognize your favourite art expression.

Finally, on a related note, Unsplash updated their iOS app to version 2.0. The update brings better navigation as well as an improvement to the statistics dashboard view. The upload workflow has been improved, but I did not fully test it.
